Abstract We discretise a tangential tensor field equation using surface-finite element approach with penalisation term to ensure almost tangentiality. It is natural measure the quality of such discretisation intrinsically, i.e., examine convergence behaviour in contrast normal behaviour. show optimal-order respect quantities particular for an isogeometric that based only on geometric information discrete surface.
